Mitsubishi Adopts Synchronicity's IP Gear for Semiconductor IP Reuse

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2001--Synchronicity, Inc. today announced that Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (FTSE: 6503q.l) is rolling out Synchronicity's IP Gear(TM) for company-wide design reuse. The system raises productivity of system-on-chip (SOC) designers by enabling them to find, evaluate and download finished blocks of semiconductor intellectual property (IP) through a web browser at any site on the Mitsubishi intranet. Synchronicity, the leader in managing the flow of design information in and between companies, worked with their Japanese distributor Itochu Techno-Science Corporation (CTC) and Mitsubishi Electric over the past few months to configure an installation of IP Gear to their IP management needs.

Mitsubishi's System LSI group managers knew that an efficient online IP catalog and support system would speed product development and give them a competitive edge in the marketplace. Mitsubishi found that IP Gear met those needs and enabled enterprise-wide design reuse to speed return on the design and procurement of IP. Since IP Gear is the industry-leading design reuse solution, Mitsubishi managers were confident that it could be rapidly installed and configured to their needs.

``We selected Synchronicity because their solutions are the de facto standard for design reuse and IP distribution,'' said Dr. Heihachi Matsumoto, general manager of System LSI Development Center, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. ``With today's system LSIs (SOCs) becoming ever larger and more complex, Mitsubishi Electric needed to build a sophisticated infrastructure that supported global standard IP exchange. With strong support from Synchronicity and CTC, the rollout went smoothly and we are pleased with how rapidly the system is enhancing the productivity of our engineers. The reuse system recently went live and already contains many DSP, CPU, encryption, peripheral and mixed-signal IP cores.''

Cliff Nakayama, Synchronicity's director of Asian Operations, said, ``It is exciting to see Mitsubishi join the other top tier Japanese semiconductor companies using Synchronicity for IP management. We believe IP Gear will help Mitsubishi remain at the forefront of SoC design by speeding their development cycle so we look forward to a long and successful relationship.''

About Synchronicity

Synchronicity accelerates innovation with internet-based collaboration solutions. Eight of the top ten semiconductor companies use Synchronicity to connect their design chain; at the team, enterprise and market levels. Their software enables those developing ICs, embedded software and systems, to move from concept to product to revenue more quickly by implementing best practices, managing design content, capturing design intent, tracking project status and facilitating design reuse. Synchronicity's IP Gear is used to create websites that enable consumers of Semiconductor Intellectual Property to find, evaluate and download existing designs. IP Gear is widely used for design reuse and IP distribution, forms the foundation for several online design portals and is the de facto standard for moving design data in and between companies. Headquartered in Marlboro, MA, 508/485-4122, Synchronicity has offices worldwide. For more information visit www.synchronicity.com.
